Peeking

I guess that could mean several different things...

Today here is a little peek at what is causing me to smile when I walk in our garden.

The poppies are loving this weather, stretching to reach the papyrus in the urn.

Our apricot roses are such a happy color with a hint of yellow at the base.

The Golden Celebration rose smells divine.

As do the softly romantic peach roses...

We are blessed!

Bonus!

It's hard to believe that we still have not had a frost yet. Not that I am complaining! We are loving our bonus flowers that are bravely attempting their comeback.

Ta-dah:

 The coral rose (and company)

 Funky dahlia

Besides the fun yellow and orange dahlias, we also found a lavender hydrangea and one brugsmansia blossom.

In the veggie arena, kale, cabbages, arugula and green tomatoes abound.

Broccoli florets that got away from us

Is anything still blooming in your garden?
What about you southerners? Are you just about to plant the winter garden?

Blooms from Normandy

Fall in Normandy means flowers at harvest time.
I am amazed at how flowers are part of the essence of living here.

Many, many dahlias in their glory...

along with Mother Nature's creatures...

both beautiful and humble.

The colors explode, especially against the foil of the indigenous stone.

Garden Glimpses

This year we decided to go with a slightly different color palette in the garden, focusing on a color I don't use very often, yellow, and its cousins. To complement the soft yellow of the striped petunia, we combined it with Black Beauty (and velvety) petunias and also coleus and lime sweet potato vines.

This pink Oriental lily is just beginning its show in the back.

As part of our eat-from-the-garden strategy, we are harvesting nasturtium flowers daily for the salad.

Is this not the most wonderful clump of rose blooms? It smells delicious, too.

And our variegated hypericum is just beginning to bloom. If you need a good ground cover that will hold the soil in place, try hypericum.

As I sit and write this at the kitchen table, I am also catching the soft lemony scent of the magnolia . Mmmm...
