Gilded Ebony

This is the amazing gilded ebony statue in the only Gothic church in Rome,

Santa Maria sopra Minerva was built between 1280-1370. It is located on the Piazza della Minerva, just behind the Pantheon. Its very unassuming exterior makes it easy to pass by.

We could spend a month in Rome and not see all that it holds!
What are your favorite sites to see there?

  1. That is what I love about Rome... you can just turn a corner and wander into the most amazing places. It is my very favorite city. I love the juxtaposition of the ancient, renaissance and modern... a big jumble of art, history and architecture.

I did love the Carravagio paintings Santa Maria de Popolo (?) on Piaza del Popolo. Can't go wrong at Borghese Gallery. But mostly I just liked walking around discovering stuff.

  2. Many of the beautiful churches and buildings with significant interiors are well "hidden" in Rome. There is so much waiting to be discovered......it's difficult to single one out!
