From the Artisan's Hand: Fortuny

Mention the word Fortuny and it brings to mind a man with a great gift. I have written about Mariano Fortuny before, here and here, on the subject of his paintings. It's so nice to see the Fortuny company carrying on the tradition and presenting beautiful fabrics.

Some of my favorites include:

  Sevigne

 Carnavalet

Fortuny's powder pigments, used for his fabrics, much like the new collection below

  Colourismo collection 2012

La Sainte Chapelle church in Paris was the inspiration for the Sainte Chapelle fabric below. See the squiggle line area between the arch and the column?

Sainte Chapelle

Melagrana

Ashanti is a fabric named for the Ashanti tribe of Ghana, known for their weaving

Girandole is an original Fortuny pattern recovered from Mariano Fortuny’s archives in Venice.

Are you a Fortuny fan?
If so, stay tuned for THE new book on Fortuny, Fortuny Interiors, to be released in August, 2012.

200 and counting!

After more than six months of daily posting, today is my 200th post!

Blogging has been a fun, thought provoking journey for me and I am grateful for all of the wonderful friends that I have made along the way.

I actually started out with another blog, Rose et Lis, but gave that up at the end of 2010. Rose et Lis is still available to visit. Here are a few of the most visited posts there.
The Truth About Lacquered Walls:

My favorite subject, besides my garden, has to be Mariano Fortuny. I have included posts several times here and there.

Schizzo per la decorazione dell'atelier dell'artista a Venezia

Some of my most read posts here at PlumSiena are Lucky Blue Find

and Kitchen Makeover Complete.

Some of my favorite images have been from Amazing Medieval Copper with the copper patinas...

and from Check out this Door with its beautiful wood.

Here's to looking forward!

Some day, while visiting with my blog friends in Houston, I'll make it to see Mark Rothko's chapel!

 Have a good one!

Did you know Fortuny also has accessories?

Neither did I!

For those Fortuny lovers out there, check out their line of beautiful, fabric covered journals and address books. They are available for purchase in their new NYC showroom or by calling them directly.

Fortuny also offers pillows by three interior designers who were asked to create pillows using the gorgeous Fortuny fabrics.

Barry Dixon, the designer of the new Fortuny showroom in New York City, created these:

Monique Gibson's lovely designs reflect her love of details, like pleating, ruching and beading ...

and Thad Hayes designed this:

Fortuny also has umbrellas.

On your next trip to NYC, stop by the showroom in the D&D building, across from Bloomingdale's. You'll soon be drooling.

Fortuny's unusual textures

We visited the highly anticipated Fortuny Museum in Venice.
Darn! Unfortunately, no cameras allowed inside.

But, outside I found the building's bricks fascinating and beautiful.

Don't you?
