Venetian Plastering

Venetian plaster has been around for centuries. I am enjoying the various sophisticated looks of Venetian plaster that have evolved.

The super reflective has its place and in this elegant curved ceiling hall, it really opens up the space.

This version is also shiny, but the deep rust color warms the walls in this more contemporary decor. 

John Saladino has single-handedly popularized the scratch or brown coat version of the plaster. It's one of my favorite looks and is very versatile. 

Tadelakt, the traditional plaster in Morocco, is beautiful with its amazing depth. It is also extremely labor intensive.

Venetian plaster is not restricted to solid walls- placing a pattern within it sure adds interest.

Metallic plasters feature a soft reflection, much like velvet.

Lightly Lavender

Aahhh- loving the look of cool, beautiful lavender, especially when lime and lavender are combined.

John Saladino does lavender as no other: the rough plaster was painted the palest blue lavender.

Classic With a Twist

For those times that you want something lovely on the wall, be inspired...

~by John Saladino's quilted wall hanging. I find the rod and chains almost as interesting as the quilt!

~by the simple solution of attaching an admired piece of fabric to a frame or two for hanging,

~by creatively hanging fabric panels (or sheets) to create a formal drape and screen at the same time,

~by very simply hanging lengths of fabric on wire, which can easily be changed out at whim,

~or to heck with the frames and just hang the canvas art alone!

Bare Walls

I have certainly noticed bare walls more and more lately.

I like the naturalness of it, the raw and honest feeling.

Honestly, one method is to strip the wallpaper and see what you find underneath. With a little polishing, this wall has great potential!

Or you can have your painter / finisher apply various paints or textures and see what you come up with. 

Mix several colors of lime paint and apply.

and Axel Vervoordt. These walls speak to me!
