A Dogwood Day

Once upon a time, there was sunshine. A blue sky. Smiling faces.

Then came 2011 and the "Spring" that got stuck.
While the grass and leaves turned green, the rains kept on coming. Six days of sunshine in six weeks left the residents not only with a Vitamin D deficiency, but a craving for warmth and being able to use their lawn mowers.

Luckily, we were able to catch the dreamy blossoms of the dogwood trees on one of those sunny days.

They made us very happy.

  2. Hello Annie
Dogwoods are very pretty, thank you for the pictures. I understand about the rain, same here, it's supposed to rain for a week non stop and I have a show on Saturday, hopefully it stops raining at least on that day.
Hope you see some sunshine today.
PS. Supposedly mushrooms are the only vegetables that contain vitamin D, so let's eat some!

  3. Oh Annie, this tree with its blossom is a dream! Have to look up if it will tolerate our lime soil.

If you send me a few days of rain I'll send you our sunshine and high temperature!!!!!
No rain for weeks and weeks and everything is so dry....!!!! Poor nature and also a big problem for the farmers. Not only here in our region, also in Germany where even forests are drying out.
So, here we are....You want the sun and we're praying for rain!

However....beautiful images of your dogwood tree! Thanks!
    Many greetings from the Périgord,
    Karin

P.S. By the way - Yes, the pair of vases are for sale, will let you know during the next few days by email. Very busy with guests, watering and getting some posts here and there together, we were also cut-off from internet and electricity last week combined with some other 'French country imperfections'!

  4. Annie, this post evokes many feelings of wonderful times for me. My grandmother and I used to take Sunday drives in the Spring to see the dogwoods blooming. The dogwood was her favorite tree.

  9. You must live in Vancouver, you just described our spring to a T. I noticed all the dogwoods in bloom here the last few days, they do glow with a special light.
